Sauerkraut Making Workshop & Afternoon Tea

Event Date:

January 17, 2026

Cooked from Scratch | Granite Belt

It would be our pleasure to welcome you into the Cooked from Scratch kitchen for an intimate sauerkraut making workshop and afternoon tea, inspired by tradition, preservation, and the quiet art of fermenting what’s in season.

Each workshop begins in our country kitchen, where Lizzie will guide you through making traditional sauerkraut using freshly harvested local cabbages. You’ll learn how to prepare and salt cabbage, understand fermentation, flavour variations, timing, storage, and how to confidently ferment at home using simple, reliable methods.

This is slow, practical cooking — rooted in generations of food knowledge — and designed to give you confidence to preserve vegetables as they’re meant to be.

While the sauerkraut begins its ferment, guests will pause for a relaxed afternoon tea, enjoying tea, simple house-made bites, and tastings that complement fermented flavours, including freshly baked bread and cabbage-based accompaniments.

As the afternoon winds down, each guest will take home:

  • Their own jar of handmade sauerkraut

  • A clear, home-friendly sauerkraut guide

  • Tips for flavouring, storing, and using fermented cabbage

  • A small seasonal gift from Cooked from Scratch

This experience is designed to be calm, practical, and deeply connected to the rhythm of the season — celebrating cabbage harvest, old-world techniques, and food that nourishes and lasts.
