Nestled on 33 acres in the picturesque heart of the  Granite Belt you will find the  Cooked from Scratch cooking school that beckons culinary enthusiasts. Under the guidance of the passionate if not cookbook possessed Lizzie Sabo you are sure to have fun!  The cooking school provides a hands-on experience, fostering a supportive environment for both novices and seasoned cooks to learn grow & explore, recipes, tastes, flavors, cookbooks & what ever is related to really embrace that inner FOODIE!

What sets Cooked from Scratch apart is its commitment to hands-on learning.  Participants actively engage in the cooking process, translating recipes into practice, learning from each other and having fun along the way.  We require a minimum of 4 people for our classes so grab some friends and lets start cooking!

Whether one aspires to learn new techniques or venture into the realm of contemporary cuisine, Cooked from Scratch has a tailored class just for you. The school prioritizes an intimate setting, ensuring small class sizes for ample one-on-one interaction with your instructor. This ensures a personalized learning journey, free from the pressures of intimidation.  Cooked from Scratch cooking school beckons you to come cook eat laugh &  learn.

Fresh Local & Regional Ingredients

The Granite Belt and surrounding region has an amazing range of seasonal  produce. The range of fruits and vegetables available is amazing.  Berries, stone fruit, apples, pears, figs, tomatoes, capsicums, zucchini cabbages, lettuce micro greens, just to name a few.  And how could we forget the award winning winery’s and brewerys this place really is a foodie and cooking school heaven, from the farm gate to your plate, there is something here for everyone.

Cooking Classes

Cheese-making 01 Feta Buttermilk & Ricotta

In this class we will be making Feta Buttermilk & Buttermilk cream cheese & Ricotta. You will create different styles of feta from  marinated to Persian.   We will then make ricotta and create a wonderful baked ricotta.   We finish with a glass of veno and enjoy a cheese platter & some tasting of what you have and can create with your cheeses once they have ripened.

  • Course duration is 4 hours.

Asian Street Food

Ever wanted to make your own dumplings or pot stickers? how about  chicken, prawn and chive pot-stickers with black vinegar, Korean fried chicken wings, crunchy spring rolls with Nuoc cham sauce, pot stickers with black vinegar, these are just some of the dishes  you will be preparing in this class. Asian street is one of our favorite classes and always great fun!

Pickles & Ferments

Want to do you gut a favor? I love fermentation and I want you to also.  In this class you will learn how to make traditional Kraut, Kim chi, Beetroot kavas pickled seasonal vegetables and quick pickles that you can make ahead and have in your fridge to liven any meal. Take home your hand made pickles & ferments to get you started. We will finish the class with a cheese platter and some tasty pickles & ferments!

Italian 01 - Arancini, Fresh Cannelloni and Ferratelle

Spend time creating an Italian feast.  We start the hands on class  with mozarella stuffed arancini, fresh cannelloni with a couple of seasonal fillings, one vegetable one meat.  For dessert we will be making ferratelle which is and Italian wafer waffle served with season fruit & ice cream.  Come learn just how wonderful Italian cuisine  really is.

Cannoli Making Class

Our Cannoli cooking class is perfect for beginners and experienced cooks alike, and is a great way to spend an afternoon/ morning with friends or family.  We will be creating a variety of fillings and finishes for you cannoli.  So come and join us for a fun and tasty experience at Cooked from Scratch cooking classes!

Paella & Churros in Hot Chilli Chocolate Sauce

Have you ever pondered the art of crafting Spanish paella and churros to perfection? . Together, we’ll embark on a journey to create a delightful Spanish paella, exploring various techniques to customize this beloved comfort food to cater to the tastes of your guests!

Gnocchi, Gnocchi Sardi & Gnudi

Who doesn’t love homemade pasta gnocchi & gnudi with its beautiful textures and wonderful mouth feel? With a few simple ingredients we will have you cooking like an Italian Nona and sharing wonderful meals with family & friends.

Italian 02 - Focaccia, Ravioli & Tiramisu

Spend an afternoon in this hands on class where we will be make seasonal focaccia, stuffed ravioli with chicken & prosciutto and one with ricotta spinache & fresh herbs both in a  traditional sugo sauce.   We finish with an all time favorite dessert tiramisu.  All served with a glass of local vino to wash it down… now whats not to enjoy with that!

Instant Pot & Pressure Cooking

Here at the cooking school, we love using our Instapot so much so we have three! If you have ever wanted to learn how to cook with pressure, then this is the class for you. Vegetable soup in minutes, Chicken wings that fall of the bone lamb shanks that melt in your mouth and to finish a lovely cheese cake all created in the instapot. Come see for yourself they really are amazing….. the list goes on and on, these pots are truly the BEST!!

Taste of Thai

We start the class  with Thai fresh spring rolls (Poh Pia Sod),  then Tom Yum Goong that’s a classic hot & sour soup, next we create Green Curry Chicken (Gaeng Keow Wan Gai) served with jasmine rice and to finish a mango sticky rice (Khao Niew Mamuang).  Subject to availability we will also make Green Papaya Salad  (Som Tum) Come enjoy the fresh flavors of Thai food.

Taste of Vietnamese

We will be exploring the balance of flavors: sweet, salty, sour, and spicy. Starting we will create Cha gro – spring rolls that are deep fried and served wrapped in fresh lettuce leaves and dipping sauce. We then progress to Vietmanese Pho:  a fragrant broth served with rice noodles, thinly sliced proteins, fresh herbs, sprouts & lime. We then move to Bun cha, a favorite with grilled pork meatballs or lemongrass chicken,served with noodles fresh salad, pickles & freshly made nuoc cham sauce.

Dumpling Party

Great fun to get a group of people together and make a variety of dumplings from meat eaters, pescatarian, vegetarian to vegan all with your own hand made dough. This is a favorite with our girly weekend ladies with lots of laughs and fun and whats more you get to enjoy your tasty treats!

Spanish Tapas & Mezze

What isn’t to love about Spanish food and especially Spanish tapas.  We will be creating a feast of Spanish tortilla, that is  crispy fried potatoes served with a spicy tomato  and aioli.  Prawns sautéed in olive oil with garlic, red pepper flakes, and a splash of white wine. Spanish meatballs, creamy ham croquettes, rolled into small cylinders and deep fried.  Spanish potato salad, Spanish chorizo, olives & manchego cheese, red wine mushrooms….. just  to name a few of the delights we will be creating.

Italian 03 Polenta Board

This is a fun class and great to share with a group of friends.   Our polenta board starts of with creamy polenta and then top with 3 different toppings from a Italian bolognese sauce,  mushroom in herbs & vegetable stew or ciambotta in Italian.  We then serve with basil pesto & fresh grated parmesan cheese!  All washed down with a lovely glass of local Italian style red wine…..Bellissimo!

Pizza Party

Nothing tastes better than homemade and Cooked from Scratch pizza!!  In this hands on class we will be cooking in the Gozney oven & our wood fired oven making some fantastic pizzas and toppings.  In this class we will be creating pizzas from scratch, from dough to toppings all with a glass of fabulous local wine to wash it down.

Supper Club 2024

Friday night once a month we have a  themed menu taking your taste buds on a journey of the worlds cuisines.  We will be traveling from Hungary, Turkey, Middle East, Asian, and across European to name a few.  Along the way I will be sharing some of my favorite chefs & their cookbooks, recipes and blogs.  Come join us on a culinary experience during 2024!

Here at Sabo’s on Severn we offer a one of a kind culinary experience. Our classes are a fun and welcoming environment with hands on experience. Where we can we use fresh and seasonal ingredients from local farmers and out of our own kitchen garden.

With each class you get to enjoy your creations with your fellow students in our beautiful dining room. It’s the perfect combination of a fun activity and delicious food. We love to cater for groups so grab your family and  friends and spend time creating tasty food to share and enjoy.
